Workload Balancing

Balance For Optimization

Getting peak use of your development team is critical in these lean times. With fewer staff and more pressure than ever on results, you want to optimize so you efficiently allocate work across the team, get the right developer assigned to the right issue, and free up management time for more strategic activities.

Issue & Defect Management supports two scenarios for balancing the workload across the team.

In the classic triage scenario, a manager assigns new issues to particular team members; while in the "queue" or "pool" scenario, issues are collectively owned by the team.

Peak Efficiency

In this empowering "queue" scenario, each team member can see new issues that have entered the workflow and take ownership of those issues that are best suited to their skill set. This allows the team to work at self-managed peak efficiency, since each team member has the ability to take on new work as they have capacity, so your teams get more work done than ever before.

Intelligent Assignment

Issue & Defect Management includes relationship dependencies between data fields, improving both data integrity, and the end user experience. Values of one selection field drive the available or default values of the related field. For example, the team lead owner of an issue can be determined by the type of issue, saving time in assigning issues to the right people. Bugs can be assigned to one team lead, enhancements to another, and documentation changes to yet a third.

In addition, functional areas of an application can determine which developer is assigned to work on the issue, based on skill set and areas of expertise of each team member. This allows issues to flow through the system more efficiently.

When a user submits a new issue, field dependencies can help capture the right information the first time, without undue burden on the submitter. Since Issue & Defect Management makes it so easy to set these field dependencies, these dependency rules are never set in stone, and are easily adjusted as needed.
