Serena Software Positioned in the Leaders Quadrant in Software Change and Configuration Management for Distributed Platforms Magic Quadrant
Serena Dimensions Evaluated on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute
SAN MATEO, Calif. — January 29, 2008 — Serena Software today announced that its product, Serena® Dimensions® CM, has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the leaders quadrant in the "Magic Quadrant for Software Change and Configuration Management for Distributed Platforms, 2008" report.
Virtually any commercial-grade software engineering project needs a Software Change and Configuration Management (SCCM) solution. SCCM is fundamental to ensuring that project objectives are met, including requirements for time to market, quality, and functionality that justify the investment in those projects.
Enterprise software development organizations following industry best practice normally define their software processes first and then deploy lifecycle tools that manifest and enforce that process. Serena's SCCM solutions are designed to be flexible enough to address nearly any development process methodology, whether a traditional waterfall-style methodology or a more leading-edge Agile framework, and to simply and easily change as the company's methodology matures.
In its report, Gartner evaluated Serena Dimensions CM. Dimensions CM is an end-to-end, process-centric solution that automates the full application lifecycle with visibility and traceability from inception to deployment. Dimensions integrates requirements with configuration management based on a single repository, which is key to delivering business-changing software.
"We believe Gartner's report shows that Serena continues to lead the market by providing a single, integrated SCCM solution for application lifecycle automation," said René Bonvanie, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, partner programs, and online services at Serena. "Companies are looking to eliminate the barriers between application development, the Project Management Office, IT operations and the lines of business. To achieve this, disparate applications must work together in a composite. This kind of composite application is a form of a mashup – an ALM mashup. With Serena Business Mashups, we've made significant investments in this area, and it plays directly into our vision for SCCM. With Serena Mashup Composer, even less technical users can tie together applications that tie together development and business workflows and applications across the organization."
