Serena Customer Survey Reveals That Information Technology Initiatives Driven by Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Will Increase in 200675% of Organizations Rate Change Governance Critical to Achieving Business GoalsSan Mateo, CA – October 24, 2005 – Serena Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRNA), the leader in Change Governance, today announced the results of a customer survey conducted in late September at the company’s annual global user conference, Serena Xchange 2005. The survey, which was designed to measure the extent to which compliance impacts customer organizations, revealed that 64% of respondents indicated that Sarbanes-Oxley will be the most important compliance mandate putting pressure on IT projects in the next 12 months – up from 58% for the previous year. Furthermore, the survey revealed that Change Governance is a critical issue for IT decision makers, with 75% of organizations rating it as "extremely" or "very" important in achieving their goals. "Serena's change governance strategy grew out of our ability to uniquely meet our customers' change management needs," said Mark Woodward, President and CEO of Serena, who on opening day of the conference, unveiled the company's strategy for helping customers more effectively govern change. "Traditional change management software addresses IT change in 'silos' or in specific areas within the enterprise. To achieve real business benefits, companies need to replace this siloed approach with an enterprise-wide change governance solution that enables them to minimize the burden and maximize the benefits of achieving compliance." Serena's Change Governance™ solutions allow business and IT to share a common frame of reference, helping companies to visualize real business benefits of a change, orchestrate responses across change lifecycles and enforce effective business processes to more effectively govern change. By adopting a change governance strategy, organizations can reduce exposure to risk, cost and poor quality associated with unmanaged IT change – turning it into a competitive advantage for their business. With the onus on IT to drive a majority of compliance projects, 68% of respondents agreed that resource constraints are the number one obstacle, followed by aggressiveness of deadline and lack of clarity in deliverables. The survey queried more than 250 organizations across a wide variety of industries including Financial Services, Government, Healthcare, Insurance, Aerospace & Defense, Manufacturing, Hospitality & Travel, Education and Technology, and elicited a 31% response rate. Almost half of the respondents were executives from multi-billion dollar companies. For more information about Serena's Change Governance offerings, please visit www.serena.com.
