Serena Software to Unveil New Technology and On Demand Business Model at Serena xChange 2007

Dubbed “A REVolution in DEVelopment,” Annual User Conference Will Showcase Serena’s New Approach to Business Mashups, SOA, and SaaS

SAN MATEO, Calif. — August 22, 2007 — Serena Software, Inc., the leading global independent software company focused solely on application lifecycle management, today announced that its 14th annual global user conference, “Serena xChange 2007,” will be held at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, Sept. 9 – 12, 2007. The conference will feature brand new tracks focused on timely, relevant topics such as Business Mashups, service-oriented architecture (SOA), software as a service (SaaS), and Agile development – all designed to teach attendees how to exploit new application development technologies for faster business advantage.

Serena realizes that the only way to reduce the growing application backlog in corporate IT departments is to empower more people to build simple applications that meet everyday business needs. At xChange, Serena will introduce new software that makes it possible for tech-savvy business people to rapidly assemble new applications, called Business Mashups, from the safe, secure application building blocks created by IT using SOA and Web services. This new, nimble method of building Business Mashups will complement IT’s focus on complex, mission critical applications to foster a new era of application development.

“Just as Facebook and Google Maps have forever changed the way consumer applications are built, Serena is leading a revolution in business software development,” said René Bonvanie, Serena senior vice president of marketing, partners and online services. “Serena’s approach to Business Mashups will forge a new partnership between the business and IT in which new applications are built at a staggeringly fast pace. IT will once again be the heroes of business innovation.”

Serena xChange will feature more than 120 sessions across 10 tracks in three days, all designed to help organizations stay on top of these new application development trends and methodologies. Featured sessions include:

  • “A Revolution in Development,” by Jeremy Burton, President and CEO
  • “Software as a Service, at your Service,” by René Bonvanie, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Partners and Online Services
  • “Developing Enterprise Mashups,” by Ali Kheirolomoom, Vice President of R&D
  • “Now and Tomorrow,” by Carl Theobald, Senior Vice President of Products

A new track at this year’s xChange will focus on Agile development, the fastest growing methodology in IT today. Led by John Scumniotales, vice president of product management at Serena, co-creator of the Scrum Agile development practice, and the world’s first ScrumMaster, this track will introduce practical applications of Agile methods. Partner solutions for Agile best practices will be showcased as well as Serena customers who have successfully implemented Agile.
