Serena Teams with AFORA to Provide Educational Software Configuration Management Workshop

Course Focuses on Processes and Business Relevance of Enterprise SCM

Burlingame, CA - (January 16, 2002) - SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRNA), an industry-leading supplier of software that automates change to enterprise code and content, today announced that it has partnered with AFORA International to provide an informative two-day Software Configuration Management workshop (SCM) addressing the fundamentals and business implications of SCM. The workshop, aimed at industry and business professionals, will be held March 19th and 20th, 2002, and is designed to help attendees better understand and resolve the many issues involved with planning, implementing, updating and managing a SCM solution-unique to their own organization's situation and objectives-to ensure a smoother implementation process.

"This course is essential to anyone responsible for implementing or overseeing their company's change management solution," said Barbara Dumas, Senior Vice President at AFORA, International. "Serena's leadership in enterprise change management, combined with AFORA's consulting best-practices approach, will help workshop attendees identify the SCM methodology that is right for their company, as well as better address the myriad of issues that arise when deploying an enterprise-wide SCM solution and process."

Several topics will be discussed during the course of the workshop. Day 1 will provide a brief history and overview of SCM, as well as address attendees' individual goals for the class. Differences among procedures, processes and process automation will also be explored, with an emphasis on the various roles and responsibilities of individuals within an organization's development environment. Day 2 will cover the various change controls involved with deploying a SCM solution across the enterprise, as well as the goals and steps in establishing a process baseline. Additionally, Web development, process specifics, software standards, quality initiatives, and measurements for ROI in relation to SCM will be discussed.

"We are pleased to partner with AFORA to provide customers and industry professionals with an educational, process-oriented SCM workshop," said Tim Polito, vice president of professional services at SERENA Software, Inc. "Upon completion of this course, participants will be equipped to apply the lessons learned to their own organization's development environment, enabling them to develop and better manage the SCM process to help make a favorable impact on the company's bottom line."
