Serena Ranks on Business 2.0 Magazine's "B2 100" List for Second Consecutive YearRemains Only Enterprise Change Management Company to Make ListSan Mateo, CA – (September 22, 2003) – SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRNA), an industry-leading supplier of software that automates change to enterprise applications, today announced its inclusion in Business 2.0’s second annual B2 100, the magazine’s ranking of the fastest-growing technology companies. Serena, which also made last year’s B2 100, remains the only Enterprise Change Management (ECM) company to be awarded placement on the list. This year Serena is #86 on the B2 100. In announcing this year’s list, Business 2.0 editor Josh Quittner observed that, “companies on the 2003 B2 100 have shown remarkable results in a most challenging business environment. But what the list shows is who to watch, who to watch out for, and what we can learn from the leaders. Technology is alive and well, as proven by the performance of these companies.” To make the B2 100, companies had to meet rigorous financial requirements and place in the top 5 percent in a field of more than 2,000 public tech companies as tracked by Zacks Investment Research. Criteria for making the list included at least three years of trading on a major U.S. stock exchange, at least $50 million in annual revenue, and positive cash flow over the most recently reported 12 months. Business 2.0 editors then ranked the companies using a combination of four financial criteria: growth in revenue, profit, and operating cash flow during the past three years, as well as 12-month stock return. Cash flow growth counted for 40 percent of a company’s ranking; each of the other criteria counted for 20 percent. In addition to making the B2 100, Serena was recognized earlier this year by several media outlets for its performance during 2002, earning placements on the first annual SD Times 100, San Jose Mercury News’ SV150 and San Francisco Business Times’ List of the 25 Largest Bay Area Software Companies. “Even amidst a difficult economic climate we have achieved major milestones and have been successful in extending our reach into new markets to remain competitive,” said Mark Woodward, President and Chief Executive Officer, SERENA Software, Inc. “We attribute this to our sound, progressive business model and to delivering practical solutions that address and help solve the real-world challenges our customers face. We are very pleased to be recognized for the second year in a row by Business 2.0 and consider it a great achievement.” The B2 100 list can be found in the October issue of Business 2.0, on newsstands now.
